Cushings Disease

Cushing’s disease is a dysfunction of the back or caudal half of the pituitary gland, which sits beneath the brain at the base of the skull. This dysfunction results from a hormone secreting tumor called an adenoma or by an increase in size of normal glandular tissue. This results in an increase in the amount of cortisol, or endogenous steroid, in the body. The most common clinical signs include a long hair coat (hirsutism), crested neck, and chronic laminitis and founder.
