Perhaps you’ve heard the sniff around town and are wondering what all the hype is about. Cornell University recently released an issue to the press regarding a new canine influenza (dog flu) strain. This new strain is thought to be a variant of the Asian H3N2 virus.
As a concerned pet owner, what can one expect from this new strain? How will it affect your faithful companion(s)? For many, you will see no apparent affect on your 4 legged friend(s). If your pet does not frequent areas where other animals congregate (boarding/grooming facilities, dog parks), then they will have a very low risk of contracting it. However, if your pet visits these places here are some symptoms to be on the lookout for: lethargy, coughing, loss of appetite, high fever, and nasal discharge. It should be noted that some pets may show no symptoms.
